What Can Go in a Dumpster?

July 18, 2026 · Service guide

A loaded 417 Dumpster Rental roll-off full of household cleanout debris in Springfield, MO

Almost everything from a normal cleanout or remodel can go in the dumpster: furniture, carpet, cabinets, drywall, lumber, flooring, siding, shingles, cardboard, the mystery dumpsters from the attic. Concrete, dirt, and brick are fine too, they just belong in our 14-yard because of the weight. The list of what can't go in is much shorter than people expect, and the number one rule on it is simple: no liquids of any kind, ever.

That means no paint that still sloshes, no oil, no gasoline, no solvents, no pesticides, nothing wet in a can or a bucket. A dried, hardened can of paint is fine. The same liquid rule is why we say no to household garbage and food waste. Our dumpsters don't smell like a trash truck, and we'd like to keep it that way, so the bag of kitchen trash and the fridge cleanout leftovers go to the curb with your regular service, not into the roll-off.

The brush rule

Tree limbs and brush are the one category that surprises people. We take brush, but it has to ride as its own load. The landfill won't accept brush mixed in with other debris, so a brush load goes to a separate facility entirely. Practically, that means you can't top off a remodel dumpster with the limbs you trimmed while the dumpster was sitting there.

If you've got both kinds of debris, say so when you call and we'll figure out the right way to split it. A dedicated brush load after a storm is common work for us, especially in spring when southwest Missouri weather does what it does.

Call first on these

A few things aren't banned, they just need a conversation. Refrigerators, freezers, and AC units have refrigerant in them, and refrigerant has federal rules attached, so ask before one goes in. Electronics are similar: some are fine, some need special handling, and it depends on what it is. When in doubt, mention it on the phone and we'll tell you whether it can ride. The full rundown lives on our acceptable items page, which is worth a skim before delivery day.

The always-no list, for the record: chemicals, fuel, oils, wet paint, pesticides, car batteries, propane tanks, tires, asbestos, and medical waste. Those have their own disposal channels, and a roll-off isn't one of them.

The easy way to stay out of trouble

Load it level with the rim, keep the weight spread out, and when something makes you hesitate, don't toss it in and hope. Call (417) 766-2029 and ask. Kyle picks up, and a thirty-second question beats unloading something at the landfill scale. If you're staring at a mixed pile in Springfield, Republic, or anywhere across our service area and wondering what's allowed, describe it and we'll sort the answer out together before the dumpster ever shows up.
